Son Cha island (or Hon Chao) is known by locals as Pearl Island, a new favorite destination for its pristine scenery and beautiful natural landscapes.
Hon Chao is located at the foot of Hai Van pass, and is part of Lang Co town, Phu Loc district, central province of Thua Thien Hue. From a distance, Hon Chao emerges in the middle of the sea like an upside down pan, so it is called Hon Chao (chao means pan), also known as Son Tra Islet, Son Cha Islet.
It takes only 40 minutes to reach Son Cha island by river, or if you depart from Xuan Thieu beach (Red Beach) in Danang, only 10 minutes by canoe to reach this beautiful island. You can join the Son Cha island tour which is held daily in the summer by a cruise from the Han River.
On these summer days, visitors can indulge in scuba diving, snorkeling to discover the mysterious beauty deep in the sea of Son Cha island. Visitors can enjoy more than 144 species of coral, 135 species of seaweed and about 162 species of colorful fish. “If you have not come to coral reefs, you have not been to Son Cha island”. This place gathers many seafood species such as lobster, grouper, abalone, sea ginseng…. This is a convenient feature for visitors to enjoy fishing and squid fishing activity also.
After a day of wandering to discover the wilderness on Son Cha Island, at night visitors can light a campfire on Gieng beach, from there watching thousands of lights sparkling on the sea, enjoy the virginity and serenity of the island.
